March Update - Jamie Gane Adaptive Athlete
As we have now entered March, the beginning of Spring, I thought I would give you an update on how my February was, including my plans for a magnificent March.
Plans for March
I feel as though this year is absolutely flying by and cannot believe that we are now in March! We have now passed the halfway point in the School year and on this glorious Monday morning, I am feeling quite exhausted after a lengthy 19 mile run yesterday.
My training has continued to ramp up and March is certainly no different. Towards the end of the month, I have a 12-hour, virtual ultra, obstacle run. Essentially, I am going to go out for 5 mile loops, as many loops as possible within the 12, performing tasks (or obstacles) between each lap. I am hoping for 50k, as I believe this is very achievable but I do hope to potentially look to push it out further, should I feel strong.
March brings about a return to in-classroom teaching, which will be a strange step away from the past 2 months of online teaching. I look forward to getting back in the classroom and inspiring my students - it has really been a challenging environment for us all.
I was due to pick up a new running blade in February but unfortunately my appointment had to be cancelled. I’m hoping that my appointment will be rescheduled in the next few weeks - i’m very excited!
If I stick to my training programme, I should finish the month on about 120 miles, which is similar to this month’s millage. I hope to stay injury-free and healthy although I have a few niggles that I am currently keeping an eye on.
February Debrief
February was actually a fantastic month, with lots of opportunities. During the half term break, I stepped up my running programme and finished the month with 125 miles covered.
In February, a number of projects were launched, including my video with LadBible (https://www.instagram.com/tv/CKmKRP_Kvs-/?igshid=sayz9pl2x33h) , BBC Sport’s ‘Things You'll Know If You're An Amputee Athlete’ ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/disability-sport/55997220 ) and some other smaller projects.
I turned 27 in the earlier part of February and feel as though I have finally found a flow with my routines after Christmas.
Summary
February was a fantastic month and March looks to be an exciting month, with a virtual race towards the end. I am hoping to give you a monthly update each month so stay tuned for the next one!
